After the pole is installed, Poles and Holes will submit the required information to Energex and your nominated retailer and Energex will send Poles and Holes an email with the EWR # (Electrical Works Reference number).

Poles and Holes will text that EWR # to the builder or the nominated person on our order form to ring the retailer (Origin or AGL) and open an account for temporary power. The retailer will advise that there is a new connection fee (currently $454.05) which covers 2 visits by the Energex crew – one to energise the temporary pole and one to swing the wires from the pole to the permanent position at the end of the job.

Underground 80 Amp

The initial cost to install an underground pole is $900 + GST. This is made up of install pole, submit connection paperwork to Energex, pick up pole, 12 weeks rent and a $100 allowance to our Electrical Contractor to feed the cable up into the Energex green pillar and to check there is sufficient fuses available for the new connection.

Only a licensed electrical contractor with a safety observer is allowed to remove the cover from the pillar to pull our cable from the pole into the pillar to make ready for Energex to complete the connection. If his invoice is higher than the $100 allowance due to distance travelled or site specific issues then we bill the difference to you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. How does power get connected to a temporary power pole?

Poles & Holes submit an EWR (Electrical Work Request) via the Energex Web Portal on the day the pole is installed.

    Q. What is a Retailer?

A Retailer is a company that sends you a bill for the connection of the Temporary Pole and the power used.

    Q. Which Retailer do I use?

It is your choice however in our experience Origin or AGL are best equipped to handle the issues involved with connection to a Temporary Power Pole.

    Q. How do I advise the Retailer that I wish to open an a/c?

Nominate a Retailer on our pole order form and your details will be sent to them simultaneously with the EWR.

    Q. How long does it take to get power connected?

Once an EWR is sent to both Energex and the Retailer on the day the pole is installed, the Retailer has a maximum of 5 business days to process the information and forward a B2B to Energex. Once Energex receive the B2B request they have a maximum of 5 business days to complete the connection to the temporary pole. The work can be completed on any day within the 5 days with day 5 being the Obligation Date.

    Q. What about jobs on a busy road?

Any connection required on a block of land that touches a roadway highlighted in yellow in the UBD Street Directory must, by law, be scoped for Traffic Control. If Energex deem Traffic Control is required then this can add 2 weeks to the job due to Council permit timelines.

    Q. Does Traffic Control cost extra?

    No, Energex pay all costs.

    Q. How do Poles & Holes know to pick up the pole at the end of the job?

We don’t unless you ring us and tell us the wires are off the pole.

    Q. What if there is no permanent connection required to a building and you just want to get rid of the pole?

You need to ring your retailer and request a “Supply Abolishment”. The “Supply Abolishment” process can take up to 20 business days. You can request to expedite this process when talking to the retailer and they will advice that there will be an extra fee. Usually they will complete the “Supply Abolishment” in 5 business days if you choose to expedite. Please call Poles and Holes when Energex have removed the meter and any overhead wires, and we will off-hire the pole and collect as soon as possible.

    Q. What is the timeline guideline?

Please allow 5 to 10 business days from installation of the pole to connection of power by Energex.
Every endeavour will be made for installation on the target date. However, due to other circumstances the date cannot always be guaranteed. If a delay occurs, the pole is usually installed within 4 days of the target date.
